Healthcare is only responsible for a small part of our health; social determinants of health, the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age play a much greater role. Like access to healthcare, access to other resources like employment, housing, education, food, and safety are not equitably distributed at the local, national, and global level. In this track, we will discuss how social and environmental barriers disproportionately affect marginalized communities and how we can begin to impact these determinants through design.

Pay for Success and Social Determinants of Health

Pay for Success is a financing mechanism that aims to channel government resources towards the most effective programs. There are several examples of how Pay for Success is being used to improve outcomes by addressing social determinants of health. This presentation will highlight the key social determinants that may be addressed by this financing mechanism, covering in detail one example from the field, as well as providing insight into the potential impact of these types of interventions on vulnerable populations.
