Good health and wellbeing are fundamental human goals – we all have a desire to feel good and function well. While good health is often clinically defined as the absence of disease or impairment, wellbeing takes a much broader perspective integrating physical and mental health, positive emotion, vitality, personal fulfillment, meaning and satisfaction in life. In this sense, wellbeing is achieved when we feel good, and capable to realize our aspirations, satisfy our needs and cope with the inevitable challenges life brings to our pursuit of the good life. This track will feature talks focused on the determinants of wellbeing and solutions intended to advance the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Title: Look Good, Feel Good: Not just the hashtag to a fashion diva's selfie.

Abstract:  Image Matters! Beyond the functional role of keeping us warm, protecting us from the elements, and meeting legal/policy expectations in public and in the workplace, clothing also serves an important symbolic role. Both aspects have measurable impacts on our health and wellbeing. This session will explore qualitative bottom-up consumer research of not only people who identify as having a disability, but also those with physical or physiological needs that impact their consumption of apparel. Krystal will discuss the limitations of products and shopping venues, how powerful “dress” can be on our wellness, and how her venture strives to revolutionize the apparel experience through designing products and spaces that embrace three core concepts: 1) image very much does matter, 2) the experience of clothing starts long before getting dressed and, 3) body diversity as the norm.
