My career combines deep experience in learning, leadership and design. I've developed strategy for Fortune 500 companies; played leadership roles at non-profits, for-profits, schools and universities; and taught a wide range of subjects to a wild range of students, in the U.S. and abroad.
As a principal at Continuum, a global innovation and design consultancy, I partnered with senior leadership at firms including PepsiCo, BBVA, and Johnson & Johnson. Much of my work focused on helping clients develop within their own organizations the capacity to innovate—by reshaping training, culture, workspace, and operations.
Before working at Continuum, I spent 20 years in the world of education: teaching literature, writing, and philosophy to high school, college, and graduate students (at schools including Andover, Cornell, and Stuyvesant); co-founding a teacher education program at Bennington; directing the graduate division at Skidmore; helping to run an independent high school outside of Boston; leading a writing-focused non-profit in its nationwide expansion; serving as academic director in a network of charter schools in New York; and driving learning design for the ELA division of a nationwide educational technology firm.
(In other words: I'm a teacher who loves designing, and a designer who loves teaching. I spend my best days working with people to turn the way things are into something closer to the way they should be.)
I studied interdisciplinary humanities at the University of Chicago and earned my Ph.D. in English from Cornell. I draw on a range of partners to meet the needs of specific clients and projects.
